All bee larvae receive royal jelly as a power food for the first 2-3 days of their life. Then the diet is switched to simple honey-pollen food. The larvae gain 1500 times their original weight in the first 6 days of life. The worker bees live to be around 40 to 60 days old. Only young nurse bees produce the feed juice in glands in the upper jaw and throat.
